Cupra Formentor VZx: $10,000 slashed off popular performance hero

Share

Runout specials on the Cupra Formentor continue, with the flagship 228kW VZx performance flagship now being advertised from $51,990 drive-away – $10,000 less than before.

The sale applies to model year 2024 (MY24) stock, the final builds before the incoming facelift entered production. In addition to the drive-away price, Cupra Choice finance is offering weekly payments as low as $130.05 based on a 7.25 per cent standard comparison rate with a $10,398 optional deposit.

At the end of the standard 60-month finance term, the Formentor VZx’s guaranteed future value figure is listed at $19,836. Further, while this latest offer represents $10,000 in savings, it’s nearly $20,000 lower than the $70,790 drive-away price originally quoted for the MY24 Cupra Formentor VZx when it first hit the market.

This big run-out discount follows similarly hefty reductions for the MY24 Formentor VZe plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which was slashed by $20,000 to $47,990 drive-away including the usually optional Leather and Camera Package ($2800) as well as a panoramic sunroof ($2150).

The Cupra Formentor was the first in-house model to come from the sporty Spanish upstart, with the rest of its range based on existing Seat models before the arrival of the Born and Tavascan EVs, and then the Terramar SUV.

The crossover SUV has spearheaded sales growth for the brand too, both in Australia and around the world. While sales Down Under slowed in 2024, the Formentor is up 38.5 per cent so far in 2025 (with 1013 examples sold) as Cupra’s local division runs out the pre-update model ahead of the launch of the mid-life facelift in 2026.

Based on the same VW Group MQB evo architecture as the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf, the Formentor VZx runs a 228kW/400Nm version of the ubiquitous 2.0-litre EA888 turbocharged petrol engine that powers hot hatches like the Audi S3 and Volkswagen Golf R. Cupra claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds, while combined fuel consumption is 7.7L/100km.

At the time of writing, there are 178 listings for Formentor VZx models on Cupra Australia’s stock locator, with prices ranging from $51,990 to $62,480 drive-away depending on specification.
