In the clampdown upon front wing flexing introduced at last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, the FIA was seeking to address two mechanisms through which it believed some teams might be gaining an advantage.
One was the reduction of the angles of the flaps within the assembly at speed. The other was the leveraging back of the whole mainplane assembly. The combined effect would allow teams to more easily resolve the low-speed understeer/high-speed oversteer conflict inherent to these cars.
